Monkees cancels other their tour

August 10, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

published: 2011-08-09 20:54:42 The Monkees started out as a marvelous mock Beatles-esque group on television. For years they entertained audiences with their kitch humor and funny ideas that John Lennon and friends made famous. The group was inspired by the Beatles’ film A Hard Day’s Night . They wanted to devise a television series about a rock ‘n’ roll group similar to the titular band. They might not have been as prolific as the aforementioned band they were poking fun at, they were actually talented musicians. Like many of the bands in that era, they began making records that were pop and…

2011-07-27 16:44:16 Author: Katey Rich Yes, we’re still writing about Kevin Smith’s Red State . After it premiered at Sundance earlier this year and then toured around the country accompanied by Smith himself, it seemed we might be done following the every move of what Smith promises will be his second-to-last feature film. But in late June Smith announced the next step in his highly unorthodox process of getting his movie out there to fans, with a video-on-demand release on September 1 to come before a one-night-only nationwide theatrical release in October. And to draw in viewers who…

2011-07-27 19:07:24 Author: Eric Eisenberg I honestly contemplated not writing an introductory paragraph for this interview. How many people out there don’t know about the legendary Harrison Ford? How many people saw the headline and said to themselves, “Who is that?” In movies and TV you always here presenters say, “And now a man who needs no introduction.” Harrison Ford is that man, but I’m going to do it anyway. Those that have been paying attention know that I was given the chance, along with a small group of other journalists to travel to Missoula, Montana a couple weeks ago to…

Expert Khalifa, big Xia En and the Currensy cooperation distribute four new songs

published: 2011-07-22 18:55:32 Whiz Khalifa is a rapper that likes to keep his music rooted in what society expects. For those who aren’t aware, the stereotypical hip-hop star raps about everything a “normal” guy in his position would: getting laid, smoking weed, “Black and Yellow,” partying, how cool they are and smoking weed. These are the usual topics of discussion in their poetic verses, and I’m not being harsh on them either. Their songs really are about about those subjects, and it’s so prevalent actually, over at Consequence of Sound, they deemed the new collaboration between Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean…

July 22, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

by Gina Scarpa   Tonight is a very telling night on So You Think You Can Dance . Which individual dancers are America really behind? Have some contestants floated their way to this point thanks to stronger parters? Who are the favorites, the frontrunners? Only time will tell…   We start with a Broadway routine by the Top 10 and then, the first three dancers hit the stage to find out their results. Mitchell is in the bottom, while Tadd and Melanie are both safe – obviously! Next, Marko and Sasha find out that they’re safe, but Clarice will have to dance…

2011-06-04 09:39:30 Author: Mack Rawden The trailer for Michael Rapaport’s documentary on A Tribe Called Quest just hit the internet, and like the band it chronicles, the clip is well-organized and full of big ideas and big influences. Outside of Public Enemy, NWA, Run-DMC and maybe Wu-Tang Clan, there has perhaps never been a more influential group in the history of hip-hop. Combining a keen, socially-aware message and engaging hooks, A Tribe Called Quest released five critically acclaimed albums during their roughly ten year career including one, The Low End Theory , that’s widely considered to be one…

published: 2011-04-25 15:55:42 Jadakiss didn’t let a protest get in the way of his paycheck. He performed a scheduled concert in Swaziland, South Africa in spite of protests by members of a youth group. The organization sponsoring the show, the Prince Lidani Foundation, is named after the country’s King Maswati III. The Swaziland Youth Congress, a banned opposition group, called for a boycott of the gig to protest the king, but Jadakiss wouldn’t budge. Regardless, the protest was partially a success, as less than 500 people attented the concert. The group’s spokesman Mxolisi Nghamphalala was pleased with the success of the protest, saying…
